  • ~Field Trip~

Last Friday our homeschool group took a field trip to the Bristol Courthouse and Sheriff’s Dept.
Mr. Hill gave us a tour of the courthouse. Here he was explaining what all happens in this room….you can pay water bills, garbage pickup bills, speeding tickets, etc. Also get a marriage license… and so much more goes on in here!

Mrs. Denise Williams…the clerk of court Or wait, she is one of the Mom’s!! LOL! She does look good sitting there though!

The beautiful remodeled court room. This was done mainly by inmate labor!

After the courthouse we went next door to the county jail. The kids got locked in a cell…..

The lady who gave us the tour showed the kids the garb you get to wear if you choose to do wrong and end up in jail!

Next, we went outside to meet Aldo, the K-9 dog.

Talking to the kids about safety issues…then he handed out pencils, bookmarks, pins and stickers.

Next we went into the building were the 911 operators work. The guy on the far side is blind and has worked there for 30+ years. He is so good!! He can remember names and phone numbers from years ago. Denise W. is the one who called to make arrangements and he remembered her voice and her phone number!! He told the kids how it is so important not to make prank calls to 911, but that they should never hesitate to call if they need to!

     Saturday~Our Prickly Pear Cactus….

…met it’s end! Our neighbor offered to remove it soon after we moved here, but to us Northerner’s, we thought it was downright cool to have a cactus in our front yard!! After almost 4 years of trying to weed the flower bed around it, keep it trimmed and watch that no little kids got in it, we decided to take Jonas up on his offer!

    100_8128

On Saturday he was out working at the shop, so Dan mentioned it to him and he came over immediately and removed it!!

    100_8131

    There it goes……

    100_8133

We had talked about it before, that if we have it removed, we might try to make a mini patio for our grill in it’s place…well, the grill got moved there right away and my hubby made us yummy burgers for supper. Pardon the hat…. LOL!!

    Mocha watches the grill longingly!!

     ~Early Morning Excitement~
This morning when Dan went out to leave for work, this is what he saw….don’t know what happened but they didn’t want any help and about 20-30 minutes later a minivan showed up and pulled them out! I got to watch quite a show though! The 3 people in the car tried to push it back up onto the road…they tried and tried, rocked and pushed, but that car barely budged an inch…..and they KEPT trying!! I even got to watch the lady in the front slide across the hood and off the other side….don’t ask! It was good humor for my morning! LOL!!

This afternoon the kids and I went to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital to visit Amy and Ayla Yoder. Ayla (4 years old) has pneumonia and is still pretty sick. Please say a prayer for them!! When we got there, the nurse was in checking her vitals. She had fever again, but seemed to perk up for awhile and enjoyed the goodies we took to her. Till we left an hour later she seemed tired and was having more trouble breathing even though she is on oxygen. Pray that they can both rest well, that Ayla gets better and that Amy can trust God to meet their needs financially!
Today was also Amy’s husband’s Grandpa’s funeral. I felt bad that she had to miss it…sounds like it was a neat celebration of a life well lived!

When we got home, Dan was laying down the cement blocks we got to make our “mini patio”. After he was done, Tamara swept it off. I want to get some nice mulch and plant some flowers beside it yet. I should also take a picture of the major “haircut” we gave our shrubs on Sat. They look SOOO different!!

    100_8191

This is a Tamara trademark….she has walked on her tiptoes ever since she was little!! I figured she’d outgrow it, but it is still very common! If I notice it, I tell her to walk flat…I hope it doens’t mess up her feet!! I really should go back to my old pics and find a picture of her doing this when she was little!

     Goodnight~ Twila

  • After having my flowers destroyed by cats and dogs so many times, I often thought I should just plant cactuses instead…

    Cool hat on Mr. Henry!

Like your new set up for the grill.

  • Enjoyed the pictures! Looks like you have a nice group of students. I’m glad they’re being homeschooled!

  • I would LOVE to go to a court! The older kids from our home school group are going to go watch a trial sometime in one of the early months this year, not quite sure which one we planned on tho. So I can’t wait!

And I can imagine your humor for the day being quite…..humorous! lol!

    Have a good one!

  • That was a neat field trip – one that children will remember all their lives! I was in the 2nd grade when I went on my first field trip – to a bakery, a creamery, and to a newspaper publisher. At the bakery we were each given a choclate cream filled cupcake, ice cream on a stick at the creamery, and a cardboard page full of comics at the newspaper place. Mine was a whole page of Blondie. I wish I still had it!

  • Neat background. Looks like a wonderful fieldtrip. Would have loved to be inside your house watching the people with the ditched car. Very nice patio you got there and I like the “cooking hat”.

  • luvly field trip, my kids would love it as well. I know all about little girls walking on there tip toes. Lindsay did that from day one when she started walking at 9 months. She even ran that way. She now is 11 and doesnt do it much now. So maybe they outgrow it. ALso loved your new grill deck. Have a great evening.
