  • Homeschool Convention ~Orlando

Last weekend a group of us Mom's from our Homeschool Group went to Orlando for the annual Homeschool Convention. I was so glad I had the opportunity to go. A big thank you to Alma Nissley for keeping the kids during the day Thursday and to Roy Pickron for keeping Danny and Tony & Dana Lewis for keeping Tamara overnight Thursday and all day Friday. And a VERY BIG thank you to my dear hubby who had the house all cleaned up and even got some extra outside work done, till I got home and in preparation for our weekend company!

We stayed at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort....also where the convention was held!

The view from our room....we were able to get two adjoining rooms which was very nice!!

    101_0066

    The room....

    101_0081

Thursday afternoon we browsed the exhibit hall....where all the vendors were set up. It was HUGE!! Wish I had taken a pic of it... Michelle and Emily met up with friends so Kay, Patty and I ate supper together outside the hotels deli.
Later after everyone got back, we hung out together and chatted about....anything and everything.
Three of the Mom's took their daughters along since we had a few people drop out and had extra beds.

Emily & Anna, Patty & Victoria, Kay & Kayla and myself. Michelle took the pic.

    101_0071

Friday was spent shopping (in the vendor hall) and sitting in on workshops...this was the big lobby in that section of the hotel. If you took the escalator/stairs to the left, you went to the vendor hall and the escalator/stairs to the right took you to all the workshop rooms. The place was HUGE!

    101_0073

Yum!! A piece of Carrot cake I splurged on for lunch to go with my leftover Cheesesteak from the night before. It was worth the $3.50 I had to pay!!

    101_0079

This picture was in memory of Denise, who couldn't make it this year! ~ I can only imagine how much more fun she would have added to the weekend!!
We were actually ready to head out to see the Arabian Nights dinner show. (this was Friday night)

    101_0084

Handing over Kay's ticket to get her van out of the valet parking....

    101_0086

Waiting....so many cars go through here in a day!!

    101_0087

Kay P., Me, Michelle Y., Emily G., and Patty F.

    101_0091

The 3 girls who got to go along....Anna G., Victoria F., and Kayla P.

    101_0093

    ~Arabian Nights~

    101_0096

    101_0097

There was a magic show before the "real" show started...

    101_0104

Supper....I had some yummy seasoned chicken breast with veggies and mashed potatoes. Salad was included as well as ice cream for dessert.

    101_0106

Michelle's childhood friend, Natalie (on right) was able to join us for the evening!

    101_0107

We wanted to do something special Friday night, so we checked prices for visiting Arabian nights or Medievel Times. They are both dinner shows. Well, they both cost between $60 and $65 per adult, so that was pretty much ruled out. Well, I happened to see that Arabian Nights had a booth at the convention and I stopped to talk to the lady since we had in mind to visit there whenever we get to take the kids to Orlando. Here, she told me that during convention, FPEA members could get in for......
.....only $10!!! So that changed our minds....thus the story behind the "expensive" evening...

    101_0121

    101_0133

This was my favorite part of the show....the horses where country line dancing.... Seriously, they did great!!

    101_0136

    ...they lived happily ever after!!

    101_0144

I was glad we went....I do not recommend this for a family adventure! There was way too much immodesty and sensual stuff especially in the magic show. I would have been disappointed to take my family there only to expose them to that after spending a considerable amount of money! Dan & I had went there 6 years ago with his sisters, but the main story has changed...I don't remember it being that bad back then.

Saturday I sat in on 2 workshops that were VERY good! One was on helping your children enjoy writing and the other was to help you understnad your child's learning style. Both were very helpful!
I had already done all the shopping I wanted (or could afford) to! So around noon, I went outisde to get some pics and just check out the hotel grounds.

There were quite a few pretty flowers. I don't know what they all were, though.

    101_0148

Our rooms were on the 4th from the top floor on the right hand side.

    101_0149

I decided to take a walk on this nature trail and was pleaseantly surprised with what I found....

    101_0176

    Got to watch some golfers...

    101_0156

    Saw more beautiful flowers....

    101_0157

Came to a small pond with a dock...

    101_0159

Thought this lone Magnolia blossom was cool.... (okay, so there is actually another one near it, but it kind of blends in with the sky)

    101_0167

    Walking back....

    101_0164

There were a few pretty fountains surrounded by roses...

    101_0171

    More golfers....

    101_0174

    101_0175

This picture was taken at the bottom of the escalator looking down the long hall were the vendor's were set up. They were off in a big ballroom on the right.

    101_0181

What a good time...I want to go again next year, but take my family with me...or maybe in 2 years!
We had a good trip home, despite the rain and storms. Thanks to Kay and Michelle for driving! I also really enjoyed getting to know each one in a different way!

  • Life As it Is....

So Monday and Tuesday I had a Tupperware Clearance sale....quite a few people asked when I am having another one, so I squeezed one in this week....I had a whopping 7 people show up those two days!!  BUT, that's better than nothing, right??
Here's just a sample of what's left over. I hope to make an online album next week listing all I have left and my asking prices...then if you want to see my stock and order you can...I will ship to you!

    101_0046

    101_0048

    101_0052

Monday afternoon, the guy who had come by and took those honey bees out of our crepe myrtle, came back again and got the ones who were left...they were actually building a honeycomb in the tree!

    101_0029

It so happened that the Hunter family was here at my Tupeprware sale and so they got to get in on the action. Zeb, their one son is interested in bees, so Denny let them help....

    101_0032

    Playing with the smoker....

    101_0040

    It was interesting to watch....

    101_0041

Yesterday afternoon I babysat Logan for Sarah....he is SUCH a cutie!!
       Oops....kind of falling over there....

    101_0059

...so much better! He was playing with Tamara's favorite toy when she was a baby!!

    101_0060

In the evening we went to the GEMS board meeting. The GEMS funds are running low, so we are considering doing some spaghetti dinners....it's great to have Candice N. on the board....she has the talent or gift of planning things like that! If you are interested in donating to GEMS and have more questions, please message me. GEMS is a prison ministry that supports 4 missionary chaplains....2 of them being families. We are also praying for more missionary chaplains...the need is great and the prison system is more open than ever for this type of work!!

Tomorrow morning I am leaving for Orlando with a group of Mom's for the Homeschool Convention! Can't wait...I think we will have a blast! And hopefully be encouraged and learn some new things!!

May 18, 2009

  • Ok, so I was going to update Saturday evening and never had the time....I will take the time now! Unless I get a customer! I am having a Tupperware Clearance sale today and tomorrow. Trying to make a little money to pay some doctor bills and to have spending money this weekend when I go to Orlando with some other homeschool mom's for the Homeschool Convention. I am really looking forward to it!

Last Thursday our homeschool group had a "Graduation/Closing Program". The one's who are finished with Kindergarten graduated and each family was given the opportunity to share something they had learned. I didn't get alot of pictures since I was taking video. Dan couldn't be there...he had to work.
This was the group of students that were able to make it...
Back: Rachel S., Leah S. Danny, Dylan P (hiding behind Danny...not on purpose), Anna G., Nathalie Y., Anslie Y., Tamara
Front: Hannah Grace S., Whitney Y., Sammy G., Valerie Y.

    100_9999

Whitney read us two short stories....she was one of the 2 Kindergarten graduates.

    101_0001

Anna G. told us a little about crop rotation. She also quoted scripture, a poem and played a song on the piano.

    101_0002

Danny & Tamara sang a song that used some different lanuages of countries we studied in History this year. Danny also quoted a poem....

    101_0007

...and Tamara read a favorite Bible verse....Proverbs 17:22

    101_0008

    Snack time....

    101_0012

    101_0013

    101_0015

Friday night the youth invited us to join them for volleyball. It was alot of fun...I haven't played (except sand volleyball) in years...I really enjoyed it!

    101_0016

    101_0019

    Visiting....

    101_0020

Saturday morning we went to Ocheesee park with some other families from church and had grilled burgers and hot dogs, thanks to Mr. Hunter.  Had a nice visit and then along came the afternoon storms and rain!! Right now we are thankful for any rain we can get. It is quite dry!

Later in the afternoon we went to clean church. The kids were good helpers.....
    ...cleaning the toilets.....

    101_0021

    ...organizing song books.....

    101_0022

    ....sweeping the floors....

    101_0025

Dan went along too and was setting up the power point for his sermon Sunday. Actually what's up on the screen is not what he preached....it must have been a previous sermon.

    101_0024

Well, that's all the updates for now...getting more Tupperware customers....

  •  What is up with Xanga and not being able to load pictures?? I have 3 more from the wedding that I'd REALLY like to add, but it won't let me....I've tried every way possible! Ugh!!

But here are a few that did load...all from this weekend in South Carolina.
This was at the Troyers...the kids enjoyed playing mini air hockey when they had a chance, which wasn't often. There was also a larger one, but it was louder.

    100_9783

Saturday morning Esther took the kids to see her horse. The lady who she boards her horse with had a horse with a young colt. It was cute, but it liked to bite at them

    100_9846

    Danny with Cinnamon....

    100_9849

Danny got to lead Tamara around a little....that gave them both horse fever.

    100_9854

    100_9856

Saturday after the wedding we all went back up to Tim & Miriam's to visit with the aunts and uncles from PA and VA.
Mel and Anne Gehman from Annville, PA and Joyce Quackenbos from southern VA.

    100_9993

Tim, Uncle Lemuel (in background), Dan, Aunt Norma (from Ephrata, PA) and Esther

    100_9994

Esther and Norma found the comfy chair!  (I had a better pic of them, but that was one of the pictures I can't load!  ) Tim was telling us about his hike up Mt. Fiji when he was in the Marines. The pole under his arm was his hiking stick

    100_9996

My beautiful Mother's Day gifts from my children...the flowers from Danny and the candle from Tamara!

    100_9997

Tamara wanted to take some money along on our trip, so I let her take a little out of her piggy bank. On Friday our family stopped at Walmart for a few things on the way down to the rehearsal. Tamara was shopping with me and she kept telling me she wanted to go to the candle section. I finally told her we don't have time...we gotta keep moving. She seemed a little sad and asked again as we were headed up to the checkout if we can't PLEASE go by the candle section. It finally sunk in why she wanted to go there and so I told Dan to take her. I explained briefly with a wink...he got the drift.  So they went off and the candle above is what she bought....just for me!! I felt so special and I am so glad I didn't insist on leaving the store without her stopping in the "candle section". She had that in her mind all along. I'm afraid it would have hurt her "giving spirit" if I hadn't let her do this for me.  How sweet!! I am so blessed!!

  • This is going to be a LONG post with tons of pictures! Just so you are warned!!

We left Wednesday Noon for South Carolina. Sam & Katrina's wedding was Saturday, May 9. They had a beautiful wedding and we enjoyed being with family and meeting Katrina's family. I also met some other friends from my past and made some new ones!!  We came home again Sunday. I will let the pictures show you how the weekend unfolded~

Thursday was spent making food for the rehearsal supper and then all the Henry family got together at Tim and Miriam's for supper. We also squeezed in some last minute wedding clothes shopping!

Friday around noon we all headed down to Fairplay to help with whatever we could for the wedding and then rehearsal was Friday night. (Our family stayed about 50 minutes north at Gary & Ruth Troyer's home. They only live 10 minutes from Miriam and Tim)

    Friday~

Sam setting up all the sound equipment and making sure everything is working right.

    100_9788

Esther & Miriam had to sing in a trio and Dan stepped in to help out till the third vocalist got there....they were getting a little silly!

    100_9792

Danny and Tamara spent alot of time playing up in the loft overlooking the wedding hall.

    100_9796

Rehearsal time....my pics got kind of dark since they had low lighting in the room! But it was a beautiful atmosphere!

    100_9815

Outside, some guys were grilling hot dogs and burgers for supper. Esther, Miriam, Dan's mom and I prepared the rest of the food....

    100_9832

    Time to eat....

    100_9836

Thank God for the nice evening!

    100_9841

    Saturday~

Danny & Tamara were gift receivers. Tamara held the basket for the cards and Danny carried the big gifts. They had requested mostly $$ gifts since they already have a lot of household items.

and Uncle John and Aunt Norma.

    100_9883

Gary and Rachel Mast were Host and Hostess and were telling people which number table to sit at.

    100_9896

Their wedding was different...it was all in one room. When you came, you were seated at a round table and then they had the ceremony. After they were married, the family and bridal party went out for pictures. During that time the guests had an appetizer and visited. Then when the family was done with pictures, the couple and the bridal party left to have more pics done and the family came back inside. They had a slideshow of pics from Sam and Katrina's lives and then had a game to play. It was 40 some questions and you had to answer if you think it applies to Sam, Katrina or both. The answers were shown in slide form too. Whoever had the most right at each table, got to take home the centerpiece.
When they got back from taking pictures, it was time to eat, have open mic, hear more singing and of course more visiting! A very beautiful wedding~

    100_9898

Sam Byler, the best man, read "Sam & Katrina's story" out of an old-looking story book!

    100_9964

When the bride and groom were ready to leave, everyone grabbed sparklers and headed outside......

    100_9965

They had torches set up all along the walk.

    100_9966

    Lighting the sparklers...

    100_9967

    Here they come.....

    Happy to be leaving...

    100_9974

And off they went......into their happily ever after!

    100_9976

Remember the game....well, Danny won at our table...I would have, except he was there when Sam was setting up the slide show and saw most of the ?? and answers!!   Well, he decided that the flowers were his Mother's Day gift to me....  awww!!

These pictures were mostly taken for Tamara. She has a locket that she wants to put some pictures in, so we figured this was a good time to take some!

A few of the pics didn't upload...might add them later. And I have a couple other pictures from the trip I'd like to add to, so I'll probably post again soon!

  •  After we got home from PA, we were able to pick up Tamara's new glasses. We were really hoping they'd be in before we left, but that wasn't the case. She seems to be adjusting pretty well to wearing them, but Sunday night at church she came to me all worried and asked if I know where her glasses are!!  Turns out she left them at home and neither of us thought about it! Her vision is not real bad, but she was amazed at signs she could read after she got them that were hard to read before....I remember that feeling when I first got glasses!

    100_9655

A neat table Dad made....Cabela's sell similar ones for over $200!! He made them from branches in their woods!! What a treasure!

    100_9658

    The top...

    100_9659

Well, I have quite a few more pictures to add, but it is bed time!
       Goodnight~

  • PA Trip (part 4-final)

Saturday after the auction, we drove to Mt. Crawford/Bridgewater, VA to stay the night and Sunday with my cousin Gwen and her family....we got to their place a little after 9 PM and stayed up talking late!

     100_9632

Then Sunday morning we went with them to church. They attend Dayton Mennonite Church
The next few pictures were taken before we left for church....

Dan holding Hannah and Fairan.....right before Fairan decided to take the lid off her cup and spill apple juice all over her and Dan!   (They are two sweet, energetic little girls!)

    Tamara and Vicky...

    100_9608

    Pretty blue-eyed Hannah....

    100_9609

The church was having a fundraiser baked potato dinner, so we stayed for that.
After we got back to Dan & Gwen's we visited a little more and got our stuff packed up......

Tamara and Vicky hit it off real well!! They are only a few months apart in age.

    100_9617

Danny and Jerry had fun too!

    100_9618

Then Dan got out the horses....

    100_9620

    100_9621

    100_9624

    100_9638

     And here they come again....

    100_9639

Then I got a turn....I am thankful for automobiles! I'd hate to travel to PA this way!!

The scenery from my seat! LOL!

    100_9641

    100_9643

Gwen took a pic of us before we left. I wanted one of their family, too, but the little girls were sleeping already when I thought about it.

    n644243890_1718294_3442303

We had a really good time and hope to go back again sometime.
Headed for home again around 3 PM and stopped to sleep in NC. After we found a motel, we ate a late supper at IHop.

    100_9645

My yummy meal that I hardly touched...I guess I wasn't really hungry. So, we took the leftovers to our motel and had them for breakfast the next morning!

    100_9648

Thanking God for a safe trip and for all the good times!! Thanks for "journeying" with us!

  • PA Trip (Part 3)

Friday morning we got up early. Dan had to be at Yoder's Restaurant for a meeting at 8 AM...that is a good hour and a half drive from Dad's.

So we said our goodbyes to Dad and Mom.... (a fitting background for my hunter of a Father!!  Dad would go out every afternoon and spread corn and apples in a field behind their house and by the time he got back to the house there would be deer there eating it! We got to see some good pics of deer on his trail camera too! I am so happy they get to live there in the mountains!!)

    Driving through Ephrata....

    Our destination....

    100_9506

The entire Gospel Express board, teams and volunteers had their annual meeting here. I was invited to stay for it, but wasn't sure what to do with the kids, so instead, we went shopping till the meeting was over.

    100_9507

Shopped at Goods, Ken's Joys, and the Flower & Craft Warehouse...I could spend a fortune in there if I had a fortune to spend!

After picking Dan up again, we headed back through Ephrata to our friend's Jay & Marilyn Martin's house.

    100_9509

We spent some time visiting and relaxing....the kids had fun playing together again!

    100_9513

We went to the auction grounds for the pig roast supper and the evening Singspiration. After eating, I met a good Xanga friend, Doris High!  Doris, it was so neat to meet you and your husband in person...and thanks for letting me borrow the picture!

    100_9525

Danny and Tamara made some new friends and we didn't see much of them all day...except when they got hungry!

Dan's boss, Chaplain Ring flew up for the weekend. It looks like Dan will lose his position again in June and Chp. Ring would really like Dan to stay on as a volunteer chaplain, so he was seeing what kind of support he could get for that to happen...pray with us!

After the main part of the auction was over, we packed up our display and headed south!!
This was taken in Harrisburg, PA. Our destination that night was Mt. Crawford/Bridgewater, VA exit!!  More on that later~

In the evening Mom & I went to Walmart to pick up her new glasses.

    Thursday~

Thurs. morning Mom and I and the kids went shopping to Hornings, DutchWay, Home Messenger and Witmer's. After our shopping was done, we met Dan and I went with him while Mom took the kids home for lunch with her. Dan & I went to visit my friend Kolleen S., ate lunch at Crave, and then stopped in to see Darlene Martin. Darlene has breast cancer and had just had a mastectomy a few days prior to that. Got to see RoseAnn W, too since she was there helping Dar. Just so sad I didn't have my camera with me!!

In the evening, all the family was invited to Dad's. Everyone came except my nephew Scott, who just had his wisdom teeth removed, and Miranda and Lisa since Miranda was sick.

My niece Amanda holding Slater, and probably dreaming of holding her own baby soon! I think she is due in August.

  • Trip to PA (Part 1- Traveling)

We planned to leave on Tuesday morning, April 21 at 3 or 3:30 AM. Well, at 1:30, Dan & I were both awake, so he asked if we should just get up and go. I thought that was a good idea since I was sure I wouldn't be able to fall asleep again. So by 2 AM we were on the road.  Danny didn't stay awake long, but Tamara was up for 2 hours before sleep finally took over.

    100_9347

Some of the beautiful scenes along the way....I loved the big fluffy white clouds.

    100_9354

Breaking the boredom of the trip with the camera

    100_9360

Danny making a design with the doodle balls....

    100_9363

Tamara drawing a horse....I think this was after breakfast and our puking episode!  After we stopped and ate breakfast Tamara was reading. Her mother so smartly forgot to give her a Dramamine before we got on the road and that combined with reading made a car sick girl! When she informed me that she needed to puke, I realized I was not at all prepared. All we had was the paper bag from McDonald's that our breakfast came in so I thrust it back to her and almost as soon as I did and she started puking, I realized that paper bags do not hold liquid for long!  Thankfully I had a small plastic bag with some meds in that I quickly put the paper bag in to, but not quite in time.... Thankfully we didn't have too much to clean up. From then on, she was medicated whenever we were going to be traveling for over an hour!!

    100_9364

We must have been passing....Dan doesn't normally make a habit of driving down the middle of the road!

    100_9349

And no, we do not drive in the median either!! LOL!  I think I had zoomed this picture in, plus we were on a turn in the road.

    100_9366

I always enjoy seeing the mountains in VA...I miss mountains! They just add so much to the landscape!
