  • Tornadoes and Storms...

Today is a NASTY weather day! I think (hope) the worst of the storms are past us, but the weather alert keeps going off....there are tornado's in almost every county surrounding us!

Tonight we were going to go to a beach social with the youth...I doubt that will happen and tomorrow is the Tyndall Air Show...but it looks like more nasty weather tomorrow!

Pray for people in the paths of these storms! The alert just went off that there is a tornado near Wewahitchka, which is the town the prison is in that Dan works at!
     Thanks!!

Logan is excited about meeting his first cousin on the Redmond side....don'tcha think?

    100_9032

Jennifer (standing on left) planned some games. We had to guess animal's baby names...did you know that a shrimp baby is a shrimplet?  We also each had to cut a length of string that we thought would measure Amy's waist. Wow, it's easy to misjudge!
The last thing we just got to watch....Nancy(Amy's Mom) had to feed Amy some baby food and she had to guess what flavor it was!

    100_9035

This one tasted bad!! I like both their expression! LOL!!

    100_9038

On to the fun part...opening the gifts...

    100_9048

Scott's Mom made a cute Pooh quilt.

New Grandma coming up!! (Beth on right).  The lady on the left is Beth's husbands Mom.

    100_9046

In the evening we were enlightened by watching Napoleon Dynamite with some friends!   Quite the movie...that's all I'll say about that!

  • Friday evening we were invited to Merrill & Marie Detweiler's house for pizza. They also invited Chaplain Smith and his family.

We had alot of fun with the zipline Merrill has up in his back yard!
     Here comes Tamara....

Merrill used to work in a pizza shop...maybe even Pizza Hut, not sure, but anyway, he makes VERY GOOD pizza!! Interesting to watch him "throw" it!

Merrill grows azaleas and he offered to send some home with us....free of charge since they are going to the ministry house.

    100_8973

    He dug up a few....

    100_8975

..and Danny helped load them in the van.

    100_8980

So, Saturday morning we spent an hour planting 10 azaleas. Dan dug the holes and put the azaleas in them...

    100_8998

Danny put the dirt back in the hole around the new azalea....

    100_9002

    I watered them....

    100_9005

Tamara helped wherever needed. She stacked up the pots to give back to Merrill and also helped me fill the watering can with Miracle Gro and water.

    100_9011

    Almost done...

    100_9015

    100_9026

After that was all done, we went to the Ocheesee Park with church friends. This is a monthly event. Whoever it suits can come and play soccer and have lunch together.

  • Friday our homeschool group took a trip to the Florida Capitol....
This is a view of it from the where we entered...

    100_8676

Outside they have dolphin statues in a pool that spills over into a lower pool.

    100_8687

And look at the beautiful petunias...makes me want to try planting some again...

    100_8688

    They looked so vibrant!!

The whole group of kids before we entered the Capitol building for the tour.

    100_8706

    All 22 stories...

    100_8708

We took an elevator up to the 22nd floor and got to enjoy the view! If you look in the lower center, you will see the entrance to the underground parking garage we parked in. The elevators for each level bring you up to the dome shaped building towards the left. It's weird to think we were parked in under all that!

    A parting view.....

    100_8798

I had got a ride out to Tallahassee with Kay P. and then Dan met us in Tallahassee when our field trip was over. From there we headed up to my sister and brother-in-law in GA. We had hamburgers and hotdogs grilled over the fire and then sat around chatting and eating roasted marshmallows till it got too windy and cool!

    100_8806

Saturday we just hung out at the house, took a walk, checked out their garden, took Tyler to play football, and Nicole to help her friend clean, had pizza for supper and talked!

What a fun, relaxing, encouraging weekend....
Tonight Dan works late, Tamara has Bright Lights and Danny is going to stay with a friend till Dan comes home. We are dropping the van off at the Dodge dealership to have some work done on it...hope they get it all taken care of! I'll be without a car till Wed. sometime! So that means I can get lots of work done, right??

  • Spring...

Yesterday was a BEAUTIFUL day!! The temp's reached the mid 80's which is a little warm, but it was still beautiful! Dan has off school this week, so he asked that we eat later supper's to give him time to get some work done outside.

He trimmed more shrubs, Tamara cleaned the trimmings up and emptied the wheelbarrow. Danny and I were digging up those nasty thistles that hurt when you step on them! Dan also sprayed for fire ants.

I had to quit on them, and get supper made and get ready to go to Heidi's house for our first Encouragement Night for ladies in their 20's to 30's. We had a good evening with 7 ladies attending...we are going through the Love Dare book and since some of the ladies are not married, seeing how we can apply it to our relationship with other's in the church as well!

When I got home, my wonderful hubby had cleaned up my kitchen sink and started the dishwasher!!   It's nice to have things back to "life like it had been before school" for a week!!
Dan also started some tomato plants....

    100_8672

looking forward to fresh tomato's in a few months.....

Tonight I think Dan is going to get the mower running for me and who knows what all else...but today I want to run to town after school work is done and buy some mulch and get my front flower bed looking good!
Looking forward to seeing my sister and her family this weekend!!

  • Fish...

Our kids love fish and we had a Beta fish for a little over two years. He died while we were in PA in December. They often asked if we could get a big tank, but they just cost so much and we weren't sure where we would put it anyway. Well, our neighbors, Jonas and Emma had a big tank that they wanted to get rid of and they asked Dan if we'd like it. We discussed it for awhile and finally decided we would.
So Saturday while Tamara and I were at the Ladies Tea, Dan went and picked it up and got it all set up and even got some fish for it! Danny was so thrilled and loved helping him set it up. That also required rearranging the living room and I think they did a great job!! Tamara was so surprised and thrilled when we got home...
So here's the newest addition to our home...

    100_8660

11 goldfish and one sucker fish...

    100_8656

Last evening we had Eric & Yolanda Miller over for supper. We were going to grill burgers and hot dogs, but a few minutes into it, our propane tank was empty!! So, we fried em on the stove! They were still good, just not AS good!

Danny fed the fish after they came...notice Collin in the corner watching the fish...it kept him entertained for awhile!

    100_8649

Eating the yummy ice cream sandwich dessert that Yolie brought.

    100_8651

I just love this picture...poor Collin...

    100_8654

The kids are doing school work, and I need to keep at the wash...
Looking forward to a good week

  • Ladies Tea

Saturday, March 7 was the 3rd annual Ladies Tea fundraiser to benefit Gospel Express. This is the event I was dreading for so long because Candace N. (the coordinator of the event) asked me back in January if I would share our family's story of how we got involved in prison ministry.
It was a beautiful day...I'll let the pictures show you....

Tamara and I at home before we left....

    100_8587

    Tammy Q~
I often wondered if she would ever wear this dress again...she wore it as a flower girl at Sarah & Keith's wedding in Dec. 07...I was kind of surprised it still fit!

    100_8591

    My reserved seat...
I absolutely loved the orange slices in the water! It brightened up the whole room!!

    100_8596

    Tamara's seat...
Notice the flowers in the little flower pots...the pots were filled with coffee beans and the flowers are actually pens!

    100_8608

The programs....also had the menu inside and the list of sponsors on the back.

    100_8606

The next 3 pictures are just of the room decor' and some of the ladies attending....

    I loved the chair covers!

    100_8639

Brianna Rhodes was the violinist...she is 16 years old and has been taking lessons since she was 8 or 9! Tamara talked to her a little afterwords...she would love to take lessons!

    100_8603

The wonderful servers!! Thanks to all the girls from church who were willing to help out at the last minute!!

and her other daughter, Rachel... (Leah, one of the servers, is also her daughter)

    100_8604

    Karina Nissley was the MC.

    100_8609

    Emily doing her job...

    100_8610

The part of the day I enjoyed the least....it really wasn't too bad, but I know I had alot of people praying for me and if that was you...THANK YOU!!!
Jill Smith also shared their family's testimony, but I didn't think to get a picture of her speaking!

    100_8615

When I sat back down from speaking, this was waiting on me....dirt pudding with a "carrot" in it! The carrot was a blob of icing with a sprig of parsley through it!

    100_8623

Chaplain Dorothy Hilton was the main speaker. Our theme was a garden ~ "Planting seeds of Kindness". She shared about how when you have a garden, you take good care of it...keeping out the weeds so the good things can grow and then comparing that to our lives! She had so many interesting stories to share too!!
I have really come to appreciate Mrs. Hilton. She is Chaplain at the Ladies Facility in Gadsden and that is where all the lady volunteers go during the Gospel Express crusade in September. The inmates really seem to respect her and have a good relationship with her!

    100_8625

The servers being recognized and rewarded!

    100_8630

Karina (L) and Candace (R)....Candace is the one who planned this event and made it happen! She is indeed a blessing to GEMS!!

    100_8632

    Tamara and Hannah Grace

    100_8640

For a $5 donation, you could get your picture taken by the little garden bench they had set up. At the end of the day they had the pictures ready in a little keepsake card that said 3rd Annual Ladies Friendship Tea on the outside...really cute. So excuse the quality...it is scanned in...

    us

This was my "gift" for sharing...I love it!

    100_8665

Thanks again to Candace and all the willing helpers who made this day a success!
